Added 521 days ago - KOTA KINABALU, MALAYSIA: Planting jatropha trees, be it on a small or medium scale, promises lucrative returns to youths keen to venture into agriculture business, says E-Yun, marketing executive of iSHEC Sdn Bhd.
She said iSHEC, the pioneer to produce biodiesel via processing jatropha trees in Sabah, intended to organise more courses on jatropha to produce young and enterprising entrepreneurs in the jatropha industry. So far, some 200 participants from Sabah have completed the course on jatropha-planting.
“We will try our best to help youths in Sabah venture into jatropha cultivation. In future, iSHEC plans to allocate RM25,000 in scholarship for participants, particularly for youths, who are eligible and interested to attend the course,” she told Bernama.
Yun said the scholarship would be offered to applicants aged 20 to 40 and the money should only be used to pay the fee for jatropha-planting course organised by the company.
She said the company will only sponsor RM100 of the RM282 full fee for each course participant excluding transportation cost.
The course, she said, would expose participants to the potential of jatropha curcas, a plant that can grow on wasteland and said to have properties that could compete with diesel.
“Jatropha curcas is not only suitable to produce biodiesel but also for other uses including organic fertilisers, soap, cosmetics and medicines.
“It can also be planted to maximise utilisation of idle land, control fuel prices, diversify sources of national revenue and stabilise fertiliser prices in the market,” she said.
Youths keen to make enquiries on jatropha planting course and scholarship can call the company at 019-8423118 and E-Yun at 013-8984844.
