Added 216 days ago - Sarawak-based DLT Plantation Sdn Bhd will develop native customary rights (NCR) land, on a joint-venture basis, with a Singapore proprietor to cultivate jatropha and gaharu (agarwood), and breed empurau fish.
Using the smart farming concept, the company will enter into a joint-venture with a Singapore proprietor to carry out the project on a 4.4 hectare site in Tapah next month.
Principal consultant Dr Elli Luhat said nearly one million jatropha trees have been planted by the company which would also train NCR landowners.
"We are helping NCR landowners cultivate their land by providing them planting materials.
"We will pay them salaries for the first six months and they will get 30 per cent profit-sharing, similar to joint ventures on such land involving oil palm plantations in Sarawak," he said after witnessing the signing of a joint-venture agreement between DLT Plantation and Ruebbn Enterprise sole proprietor Rajah Krishnan here today.
"We are looking at a net profit of about RM20 million once the project is operational," added Dr Elli who opted for early retirement from the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation to concentrate on modern farming.
He said the joint venture had huge potential given the fact that empurau, as a delicacy, fetched as much as RM450 per kg while jatropha could be a close substitute for fossil oil.
Gaharu, termed as the "green gold," has been documented as the most expensive tree product.
One litre of gaharu oil fetched between RM35,000 and RM55,000 while green tea extracted from its leaves was found to be good for diabetes and cancer prevention, he said.
